Next July, at the AMICA Convention in Niagara Falls, I've agreed to
conduct a workshop: "AMICAns and the Internet". I'm bringing with me
my little sub-notebook computer, and doing a live Gee-Whiz demonstra-
tion of how easy it is to connect up to the 'Net, how easy it is to
surf, how wonderful it is to link up with MMD, how easy it is to build
a modest web site, how easy it is to correspond via email, etc.
A critical ingredient is an LCD Projection Panel for use with an
overhead projector. So far, sources in the area are charging an arm
and a leg for the use of one of these devices. I'm trying to locate
one here in Winnipeg that I can pack into my luggage and bring with me.
However, I'm learning these devices are hard to find.
My computer will drive a minimum external VGA color monitor quite
nicely. So the device I'm looking for should have color capability
with minimum VGA specs. I've done something like this in New Orleans
a year ago, and there managed to borrow, for 4 hours, a VGA Projector
from the University of New Orleans next door to the hotel. However,
a Projector is too bulky to stuff into my luggage.
I'm wondering is somebody on MMD planning to attend might also have
access to an LCD Projection Panel, and perhaps might consider bringing
it along.
Alternatively, I'm prepared to consider buying a suitable used one,
if it could be found. I only need it for the Workshop, so would simply
sell it afterwards. Quite frankly, I'm shocked at the prices for new
ones in the $5,000 range, when a full blown Pentium computer can be
bought for well under $2,000. I did find one priced at $150, but it
is an EGA monochrome unit, and I don't think my computer will drive
that one.
Thoughts of others would be appreciated.
If by chance, one of our MMD moderators might also be attending, it
would be real nice to have an expert tour of the wonderful features
of MMD. Jody, Robbie, your thoughts?
