The top valve seats [in Coinola instruments] were usually a red fibre
that can be obtained from McMaster Carr. Cut them with a hole saw for
the outside dimension. Take a stack of them and chuck them in a lathe.
Drill then tap. Yes there will be waste but you can make enough for
what you need. I assume these are the ones with the brass insert.
Coinola also made these with a Bakelite top seat that I have made by
taking an original and making a mold with RTV rubber. I then used a
product called Aluminite that is a two part epoxy that sets up in a
minute. These can be spray painted black. I have a couple of both
types left if Tony wants to see them.
We are an Aluminite distributor. Being somewhat cheap and stingy
I have bought Hold Heet glue pots direct in quantity, Forstner bits,
Osborn punches, and Aluminite. Using the RTV molds I have made all
kinds of parts for players such as the moldings on the top of KT post,
valve covers, and parts that I wanted to have cast in iron by a
foundry.
Most recently I cast all the iron parts of a Nelson-Wiggins so that
they could be made into two part patterns for the iron foundry. This
also enabled me to make them oversize for the iron shrinkage.
