Wilcox & White Symphony Reed Player Organ
By Eugene Rogers
Hello fellow music lovers: I am in the process of restoring a
Wilcox & White Symphony reed player organ (like the one pictured in
David Bowers' book "Automatic Musical Instruments page 781). This is
a very ornate instrument with gold colored display pipes and carvings.
The problem is that the wind motor was missing when I purchased this
organ and was wondering if anyone has an original wind motor for this
instrument. I have tried to duplicate the motor, but was not able to
get the correct pitch on the crankshaft.
Also what is the best method of cleaning the reeds? This instrument
has been in storage for several years, and worked before putting into
storage. I think all the reeds are rusted and need cleaning. The pump
produces vacuum, but doesn't work when stops are pulled out and the
rolls is turning. Doesn't work manually either.
I need some professional advice on this project!! (Help)
