Osborn Punches and Forstner Drill Bits
By Don Teach
I mentioned that we are distributors for Osborn punches once and would
also like to mention that we distribute the only American made Forstner
bit. These bits must be used in a drill press, and they drill a hole
with no pilot hole.
True Forstner bits drill perfectly flat bottom holes like the ones used
in player pianos. They have more steel in them to dissipate heat, so
they last longer. They are also 6 inches long. As a distributor we
sell with a minimum $100.00 order. This is typically a savings of 20
percent off they prices you see in McMaster Carr.
I would also like to mention that when using punches to use a good
cutting mat. I use a block of maple with the end grain for the
punching surface. There are other mats that people use but I like
the one I made. I also have one made of oak.
