Don Teach mentioned today the neat music roll punch made by Robert
Streicher of Pond Eddy. He still sells them and I've made thousands and
thousands of punches with mine, honing it now and then on a piece of
emery or crocus cloth, and it's still going strong.
The punch is simple to use: just position it where you want the hole,
push down (it has an internal spring-loaded driver) until it clicks,
and you have your hole. Fast, clean, and simple.
They come in various sizes. The one I use that matches the hole size
in Wurlitzer band organ rolls is .072" and cost $21 several years ago.
Mr. Streicher has a pretty good reputation as a machinist for
mechanical music instrument parts. His address is Box 39, Pond Eddy,
NY 12770. Pond Eddy is on the Delaware River between Hancock and Port
Jervis, pretty much across the river from Equinunk, Pa., right near the
old eel racks and the Hawks Nest, if you know that part of New York
State.
