A few years ago, I listed my Model 39 American Theater Photo Player for
sale in the music section of the Antique Trader. I was very surprised
to find the same item listed in one of the antique appraisal books a
year later, with the value being my exact asking price from the year
before. I would guess that a lot of the values of items in the books are
derived the same way, from listing in publications. As we know, the
asking price may not come close to the true value of an item, the true
value in many cases being a lower value.
