Hello to all MMD'ers. Well, the response to my posting asking about
reproducing roll translations has been overwhelming! many have written to
say they will send conversions, and a few have already happened! There are
three new postings on the site in the "Rolls and Archives" section of the
"Disklavier Pantry." Be sure to check them out (if you can play DKV files,
that is). My greatest thanks to those who have contributed, and those who
will be contributing.
The deadline for the first annual Well-Tempered Disklavier competition is
over now, and the resulting entries are being posted to a new page on the
site. When complete, I'll make an announcement. There are several good
entries, which I am sure many of you will enjoy. I plan to have them all
ready and on the site by the 15th of this month. Stay tuned!
Last, but not least: I have been reading some of the posts regarding the
Gulbransen "Registering" piano. I recently picked on of those up, and have
had several experts, including a local technician, tell me that this is one
of the best players available. After reading a recent post about the
ability to control note velocity by pumping, I decided that I may add MIDI
velocity sensing to the hammer assembly, which will allow me to make
interpretive recordings of regular player rolls. Does anyone have any
comments on this? As an amateur pianist, I believe that I could handle the
interpretation aspect reasonably well, and the resulting files would by a
lot of fun for those who like the kind of stuff usually seen on plain ol'
piano rolls. What say you all? Is this a fools errand? If nothing else,
it will be a fun project...
That's it for now. Thanks again to all who have helped on my various
projects.
Best Regards,
Jim Hendershot
