Hello all you MMD'ers!
Saturday's MMD was quite interesting to me on a number of counts, so I
thought I would post a multi-subject message.
First, thanks to Joel for posting the info on the Ediphone site. I will
look through that with much interest, as I am currently restoring an
"Edison Home Phonograph" that was owned by my grandmother. A question, for
those of you in the know: Was there more than one groove standard? On
first playing, I noticed that my Ediphone was tracking faster than the
cylinder. Was there perhaps a change in the number of grooves per inch on
later machines? If someone knows, drop me a line. Thanks.
Second, thanks to all of you who posted information regarding solenoids
for my player harpsichord project. I have some samples of units that look
good, and so now the real work begins...
Third, some of you know that I am the webmaster for the "Well-Tempered
Disklavier" web site. One of the sections that has gone begging is the
"Rolls & Archives" section, which currently has only the Rachmaninoff
performance of "Flight of the Bumblebee" which was generously donated by
Wayne Stahnke. If there are any MMD'ers out there who are capable of
scanning and converting rolls into MIDI files (I can convert to ESEQ for
the DKV), would you consider sending them to me for posting on the site? A
lot of Disklavier owners would be very grateful, as would I. Also, those
of you more talented among us who would like to send along performances,
your music would be welcome too! The only requirement is that the music in
question be in the public domain, since I can't handle the copyright issues
on a publicly downloadable Website.
Last, but not least, thanks to the fine folks who do all the work here on
MMD! We all really appreciate you!
Best Regards,
Jim Hendershot.
