Hello, everybody, especially those who are interested in organs and
orchestrions made by the Antwerp firm of Mortier. In Holland is a new
foundation, called "Societe Mortier", and they are planning to write a
book about the history of the business and the organs.
They have very interesting material, such as photo's of the interior of
the factory, lists of employees, a lot of old photo's and many more.
I have been investigating the fate of Mortier organs for several years
now and found a little more than 200 surviving instruments, of which
about 150 had a serial number.
If you know Mortier organs in your neighbourhood and you doubt if
I know of it, please let me know the details, such as number of keys,
serial number if there is one (many of the 80 and 84 key models did not
have one), and if the organ is more or less original (most were rebuilt
and robbed of top and side chests). Maybe we can make that list as
complete as possible for publishing in the book.
