Friends -- Thanks to two fellow MMDers, I've learned how to put a few
RealAudio (RA) recordings I made on my piano up on my Player Piano web page.
The four songs I put up are 20's dance music from Ampico and DeLuxe
rolls that I pumped on my Autopiano. I covered the Ampico code-holes
on the tracker bar with garbage bag plastic strips. More songs to come
soon.
Because much sound quality is missed in the conversion process, I found
it necessary to have the microphone on top of the piano to give the
crispest sound. The RA conversion also makes my piano sound a bit
tinny, which it isn't. I also found that the playing came across too
staccato, so I did my own pedaling. Playing Ampico rolls on a 88n
instrument, changing the pedaling then digitizing the mess is akin to
giving a pig a strawberry, but I offer these songs up because they're
great tunes.
Also, since RealAudio files take an average of only 450Kb of space
each, I plan to methodically catalog my music electronically. Disk and
tape space is so cheap now. Is anyone else thinking of cataloging
their library by this means? Would these aid in any catastrophic
insurance claims?
Anyway, I'd like to invite you to visit and give a listen to these
marvelous rolls!
