Sam Harris wrote that he sealed his pouches with 50/50 sealer. If he
is referring to 50% rubber cement, and 50% thinner, it is my feeling
that mixture is far too thick for leather pouches.
Recently I had a fellow tell me his pouches were sealed with this
mixture and they would not work at all. The reason was, this
percentage makes a sealer that is far too thick.
A more realistic mixture would be 20% rubber cement, and 80% thinner.
Keep in mind that the thinner evaporates quickly, and the mixture
becomes thicker as you work. The thinner is highly flammable, and
caution should be used.
When dry, there should be no noticeable appearance of the leather.
Test it again, for tightness, and if necessary give them a second coat.
Next, using a small soft brush, dust the leather pouches with pure
talc.
