Hi, my name is Dave Krall and I am new to MMD, but not new to
mechanical music. I was introduced to MMD by friends, Bill and Dee
Kavouras. A few of you know me personally, and some by reputation
(that may be good or bad, depending on your point of view).
I used to work on steam locomotives -- if you're a steam fan you may be
familiar with No. 107 running at Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton, Alberta.
I found the locomotive for them and assisted in the restoration years
ago. Then I got into pipe organs, particularly theatre organs, which
is my profession now.
I have done some restoring of automatic musical instruments, but
primarily I keep that as a hobby. I have a 5'8" Mason in which I
restored the Ampico (the piano was done outside), and I was also
telling Rob DeLand about my outdoor upright Ampico. It plays pretty
good in this kind of weather once you knock the ice off the strings.
Adam Carroll"s "The Ice Skaters" (Ampico # 66573) sounds best on it
this time of year.
Anyway, my passion right now is Artrio Angelus. I am developing a recut
project in cooperation with John McClelland and have been in touch with
most of the major Artrio collectors (a few have not responded) who are
most enthusiastic about this. It is sad to say but many important
rolls of this library exist only as one roll in someone's collection.
Many others have not been found at all.
I would be very happy to hear from anyone out there who has rolls or
catalogs (which I would be interested in purchasing) or knows anyone
who does. This roll library is on the verge of extinction and needs
to be transferred to disc as quickly as possible. Any assistance from
anyone out there will be greatly appreciated. Contact me by E-mail or
by phone at 219/932-2322. Thanks.
Dave Krall
