To the entire list of valued player enthusiasts, I recently received
some email that left me with the feeling of "the call to arms" so to
speak. Here's my response.
I've written one other list about the value and freedom of such a list
as the MMD. I find such lists to be of great value. Where else can
you ask so many people with focused attentions about a particular
tidbit of the trade?? NOWHERE!!! Where else can you submit your
findings or share your experiences with others in such a highly
specialized trade??? Where else can you find such a diverse source of
opinions and ideas on such a totally unheard of subject as player piano
repair and upkeep??
You can't go to the local hardware store and find someone that will
know squat about the subject. You can't, in all reality, go the local
coffee bar or deli and find someone that will chat with you endlessly
on the subject. It's all here. There's information, archives,
opinions, good information, bad information, good and bad advice,
obtuse views, as well as straight ahead views.
The other list I've mentioned, suffered some casualties and there was
some loss of talent and contribution because of it. If we abuse the
participants or treat the information presented here with careless
abandon, we loose the value of the list. Personally, I have a leading
edge over the other techs in the area by having a computer, and then
additionally by having Internet access and knowing how to extract the
information that will benefit me most from it.
The Internet, the list, and your computer are all for you to make the
most of. You can use them to destroy or to enhance. Smart people know
which one to choose. I look forward to your collective and continued
ability to impress me, and the rest of the list, with your proper
handling of all three.
Now, if you all would open your hymnals to page 312 ...!
Happy New Year to all
Respectfully
