I tend to agree with Larry Broadmoore about restoring the original
expression box on a Duo-Art, when possible. But I think he failed to
consider the following situation.
I am currently working on a Duo-Art that has had other restoration
attempts over the last twenty years. When it came time to totally
rebuild the expression box that I received with that piano, I found
that previous work had gouged the mateing surfaces so badly, and that
all screw holes had been stripped out, that I did not want to resurrect
this expression box. It really was in poor condition and would never
be of good quality.
I had seen the new replacement box at the Sandusky AMICA convention.
I ordered one. It is wonderful. So in this situation, the new box is
a good deal. It is much better than a trashed out old box. It is well
worth the money because it also vastly cuts down the time needed to
repair and restore the old box.
