Regarding the quality of the MIDI files on the classical MIDI web site,
most will not play well on a Disklavier or PianoDisc system. The MIDI
files are from numerous authors, and generally the duration times on
the individual notes are extended for electronic keyboard. The problem
is that the extended note durations do not allow the solenoid pianos
enough time to "recharge" (for lack of a better word) for quick key
repetitions.
I have edited a number of the files from this site, and one can get
them playing well with enough patience.
There are some files which will play well (some even appear to be piano
roll transcriptions) but finding them is totally the luck of the draw.
Overall, it is a great site, and the gentleman who runs the site,
Pierre Schwob, is a very nice gentleman. Unfortunately, the MIDI files
were never intended for solenoid pianos, so don't get your hopes up.
There are some great sites where one can get good free, solenoid-ready
files including the Well Tempered Disklavier, Robert Findley's page and
the MSR PianoDisc page.
