Johnny Verbeeck, on one of his follow-up trips to tend the W165 at
Seabreeze Park in Rochester NY, did do some things to try to reduce its
volume. I was told he lowered the wind pressure a little. Of course
you can't lower it too much without doing more harm than good
musically.
The organ still lacks a facade, which would certainly do at least a
little to mellowing it. They were going to have one carved over this
Winter, but "business was off during the 1997 season, so it will have
to wait."
Business was off partly due to weather, and partly due to the Quantum
Loop roller coaster attraction being closed all season because of a
freak accident just around opening week. No one was badly hurt -- the
wheels seized up, as the coaster came out of one of its loops, with
resultant sudden brick-wall stop and some real or alleged whiplash
injury -- but they shut down the ride to completely re-engineer the
wheels and bearings.
With Eastman Kodak layoffs being what they are, and will yet be,
I wonder how the 1998 season will be? A band organ without its facade
looks so tiny and naked. Sigh...
