I recently acquired from Nancy Fratti a musical menorah; Nancy was kind
enough to see to it that the menorah arrived in time for Hanukkah
(which can be spelled 15 different ways).
Originally the tune played was Sound of Music (why!?), but Nancy
changed it to Oh, Hanukkah! The movement, in the bass, is by Reuge and
the item is solid brass, and made in the 1940s. It is wound from the
bottom, and the on-off-on lever is on the side of the base.
This menorah is known as a Hanukiyah (9 candles), while the menorah
used for the sabbath is called the shabbat menorah (which has only
seven candles). My menorah is 13" high and 11" across, with the
Shamash candle (the candle that is lit first every night, and used to
light the other candles nightly) being in the middle and at the 13"
level; the other candles are at 12" and there are 4 on each side of the
Shamash.
Shalom and Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, etc.
