[ Robbie asked, "Do you have an organ or a synth available to play
[ the organ rolls?"
In response to Robbie's questions: I do not have an organ yet. To be
quite honest, I don't think I'll be allowed to have one of these
"little" treasures inside a college dorm (next year).
Right now I'm just collecting the rolls so that I can use them in the
future for whatever organ I buy/make. I had been considering the idea
of using a synthesizer to reproduce the music from a roll, but I am
not quite sure how that would work. MMDians, how exactly can you get
a synthesizer to "read" a 165 roll?
As for the Tilden Park organ, I can't say that I care about it too much
at the moment. It's not going anywhere, so I'll bide my time with it.
I have seen the inside of that thing and from what I have reported to
others, it is quite possible that it is a Gavioli, but the guy who I
saw working/patching the thing said it was a Bruder of sorts. My one
and only comfort is that I'm receiving access to two band-organs that
are playing the 66-key music... So I'm okay! Tilden remains a mystery.
Update on Ed Openshaw and his collection of 66-key BAB rolls for
recutting! He's not getting around to it. I know -- I was heartbroken
as well, but it's his stuff so it's his call.
I saw the Malones recently. I think they are now cutting Violano
Virtuoso rolls or something. Man, that place was just bustling with
action. Mrs. Malone is one tough old lady, the way she goes about
business there. Anyone here know the Malones? I heard through a few
East Coast contacts that a man by the name of Herbert Powell made
recordings of their 165 and then bootlegged them out from under the
Malones to turn a quick buck. Rumor or fact?
