Well, its great to be back, up and alive! Thanks to all for your best
wishes, and for taking some of my notes and sending them up to the
list.
This is my first direct attack at MMD alone, and of course it may be an
interesting one. My question concerns Schulmerich Carillon Rolls. I
would like to know if these are still available, if there is a
substitute roll for these that this Pennsylvania company distributed
(probably in the '60's with their church carillons), and lastly have
any of these rolls been updated with newer titles, newer test rolls,
and such.
One of the churches at which I play has had a silenced external-
internal carillon which could be played from a Rodgers Concorde
keyboard, or from a roll driven mechanism. Of course it has its
problems now with some individual perforations NOT responding at all,
especially from the inside console keyboard.
I don't feel the company has done anything in keeping its older
instruments up to date, and I wonder if someone has any idea of other
roll types or newer instructions on the proper maintenance and upkeep
of these machines. Remember these rolls are also "timed", and the
mechanism for the roll play on/off is bypassed for internal use.
Again, a re-hello! to all the subscribers who have contacted me. Our
web site for antique sheet music is just about ready to function with
thousands of music sheets.
Id be happy to respond to any questions privately on sheet music and
Edison cylinders.
Oh -- by the way -- a request on a For Sale item. Does anyone have an
upright piano, not necessarily a player, of the Krakauer brand (the old
138th St NYC company). I have someone, a retired seasoned citizen, who
wants to replace one they had to leave in a house they sold. The brand
has to be KRAKAUER and none other.
Be back later, to follow through on the Schulmerich automatic carillon
rolls.
