Thanks to all the members who responded with information to help me get
started restoring my music box. As I mentioned before, I have been
collecting phonographs for about 10 years. Actually, I picked up my
first machine at an estate sale from a gentleman who knew no more about
phonographs then I did. He was trying to play a 78 record on an Edison
Diamond Disk Machine and of course it wouldn't play. He was asking a
hundred dollars for the machine and I told him I would take it even
though it didn't work. I figured my husband, Rick, being the handyman
that he is, could fix it.
Imagine my surprise when, after finding some old thick records in the
box of records that came with the machine, the machine played just
fine. I also found the original Edison oil can and grease jar when I
removed the grill. From then on I was bitten by the bug. I was only
able to add a few more machines to my collection in the next several
years, as I returned to school full time and then started a new career.
I recently began adding to my collection again and am very happy to
find MMD.
I just bought an upright phonograph, Aeolian-Vocalin, with the name
plate Edmund Gram Piano House Milwaukee. Does anyone know how long
(dates) Aeolian manufactured phonographs? Also need information on
where to get replacement locks/keys for phonographs/music boxes.
As I live in rural Southwest Texas, everywhere is a long way from here.
As they say, it's not the end of the world, but you can sure see it
from here. I haven't met any local collectors, so if anyone knows of
someone please let me know.
Thanks,
Jan Johnson
