Subject: "Herophon"
I really hope somebody can help me. I have found an instrument in my
grandmothers attic. It is called a "Herophon". The best I can tell,
it was made in Leipzig, Germany starting in 1893.
It plays a square metal sheet which remains stationary while 24 reeds
travel around the underside of it and relay sounds to 24 metal notes.
I remember listening to this thing when I was real young, but I could
not find any sheets of music in the attic. I don't even know if it
works anymore.
The leather bellows look good and the handle does turn the "turntable".
It is approx. 12" high X 16" deep X 16" wide. Has anyone ever heard of
such a piece? Where can I get more information?
Thank you for any help.
