Well, I don't know if the solenoid piano has really caught on like some
of the other "Keep up with the Jones's" stuff -- like those silly
sports utility vehicles, $250-300k suburban houses, expensive luxury
cars, etc.
Most people are probably buying fancy stereo systems instead of
solenoid pianos, or they've swallowed the line that the digital piano is
better than a solenoid "because you never have to tune it" and they've
bought that junk.
I bought my Disklavier for musical enjoyment, and it has been wonderful
the last two years. I listen to it all the time and I have a lot of
music for it. Other people in the house practice on it, so it sees
quite a bit of use. Purchasing it was quite an extravagance but I
negotiated hard and paid cash. The music always brings a smile to my
face. I don't regret the purchase.
For the record, I own a cheap Nissan pickup, a small house that is
affordable, no expensive stereo system and I don't have any credit card
debt. I don't give a damn about the Jones. The Jones don't care
anything about music anyway.
Cheers,
Larry Kellogg
[ Well said, Larry! In the earlier era Bruce recalls, you would
[ have had music rolls "stashed in every cabinet or corner of the
[ house." I'm glad that you enjoy the _music_ of the Disklavier. :)
