Greetings to all!
As I new presence at MMD I have been encouraged to introduce myself.
I have been reluctant to do so because my interest is quite specific
and work-related. However I have been inspired by recent introductions
and re-introductions.
I am Steve Grotenhuis, employed by the Science Museum of Minnesota as a
project production manager. My current project is the Mississippi
River Gallery in the new SMM which will open in early 2000. This
indoor gallery and outdoor terrace will be on the fifth floor of the
museum overlooking the Mississippi River in St. Paul. On the terrace,
as a symbol of the commercial use of the river, we will have a
full-sized, real towboat on display. (Anyone know of one for sale?-
maximum weight, 50 tons!).
In this same area we want to have a steam calliope. The acquisition of
that instrument and the gathering of information about calliopes has
lead me to MMD. Jody has encouraged me to share my findings with all
of you and I intend to do that in the near future.
Thanks for being here,
Steve Grotenhuis
