Mark Koeninger asked, "Can anyone tell me what these certificates are,
and their significance?"
Several people wrote in confirming that Bob Yates of 901 Glenshaw Ave,
Glenshaw, PA 15116 does still supply the certificates. However, no one
has explained what they are.
It happens that we are fortunate that virtually ALL the records of the
Regina Music Box Company of Rahway, NJ, have survived and are in the
keeping of the Musical Box Society International.
Since all Regina disc boxes have a serial number which is plainly
visible, by sending this serial number to Bob, he will return a
certificate telling the exact date the box was shipped from the factory
along with some other information if available. This is a POSITIVE
dating for these machines and is a great service to the owners.
I have personally looked through these ledger books, and it is like
looking through a time warp to realize that they were all hand-written
beginning well before the turn of the present century.
I don't know if it is necessary to be an MBSI member to get the
certificate but I would like to add that for automatic music enthusiasts,
membership in the MBSI (and AMICA) is to formally join those of us
dedicated to saving, not only the artifacts, but also the records, the
technology and the personal histories of an industry that is all but gone
today.
Hope this helps,
Bob Conant
