Steal a Great Piano Book! I stopped in at my local Borders book store
and found stacks and stacks of "The Piano" by Jeremy Siepmann being
remaindered for the incredibly low price of $6.99 (ISBN 0-7651-9833-9)!
This 192-page book is oversize and in color. It features not only
sections on piano technology, past and present, but a section on all the
famous pianist of this century, many of whom recorded piano rolls. There
is even a 4-page section on the player piano with photographs of roll
making, a color advertisement for a Duo Art Pianola, and a salesmen
demonstrating a player to a lady, circa 1920's England.
The book was first published in London by Carlton Books Limited in 1966
but this edition is by a U.S.A. publisher, Smithmark, done in 1996. Most
discount bookstores are probably carrying this book. Buy several and
give to all your MMD friends such as Robbie Rhodes for Christmas!
