It is not fair to a piano to dislike all pianos of a particular type
because the first one you saw or heard was not up to par. Many pianos
in public places are out of tune and poorly maintained.
Unfortunately, as a dealer of new pianos, we sell them and usually never
see them again. It is not possible as a dealer to go and see every piano
we have sold, again and again, to make sure it has a good home and is well
cared for.
Our store has been selling pianos since 1910. That is a lot of pianos to
have to chase down and believe me I wish I knew where the 110 Seeburgs
sold went to. I would really like to know where the two Seeburg "G"
models ended up.
The first nickelodeon I remember seeing was not playing well and the poor
old piano needed a lot of attention. I have since gotten over that and
accumulated quite a few nickelodeon pianos since.
Since there are so many opinions about what should be in a public place
then the best choice would have to be a original Seeburg. Perhaps a nice
Seeburg "E". Very few in the public have ever seen one or knew they
existed. So cast my vote for a historic hotel to have a historic piano.
