Regarding the debate on the "worth" of MMD, I think it's the best deal
since the 50-cent QRS roll of the 1920's!! Here are my thoughts on this.
Other automatic music publications are issued four times a year. We wait
and wait for these. And there is a very slim chance that a "average Joe"
will see his article in them, either. You don't have much of a chance to
question the authors about why you should do things a certain way.
[In MMD] There are plenty of opportunities to disagree with anyone,
(within limits, of course); ask a question and chances are very good
someone will e-mail you the next day with the information regarding your
posting. However, I am glad that Jody and Robbie is here, to keep
disagreements down to a tolerable roar. :-)
If it were automated like some forums, God knows what we would read each
morning. Not this fine group, but the computer hackers, and God knows
who else, would insert some colorful words. Just take a look at any open
forums on the Internet.
Jody and Robbie are to be commended for doing such a fine job. They are
true editors. They get the postings readable but they don't try to slant
things or take things out of context, which is rare among the so-called
Editors of today!
I have told the group about my roll project. The response has been
overwhelming. People from all over have written, offered advice, and sent
software; this could not be found with the best search engine anywhere.
Three out of four of our Foster pianos came from MMD members.
This remark is not a put-down for the written publications, or the people
they serve, but look at it this way: If you look at the comparison of
information, customers, and contacts you get for the $30 question, I don't
think there is any comparison.
