Paris, Oct. 21st, 1997
A specialized auction in mechanical music will take place in Chartres
(80 km WSW from Paris) on Sunday Dec. 7th, from 2 PM.
The auctioneer, Jean-Pierre Lelievre, asked me to describe some of the
instruments for sale. A catalog will be issued mid-November.
Many lots in automatas and mechanical music.
Special mention for two large interchangeable orchestra music boxes with
"voix celestes", drums, castanets, bells, etc. The biggest one is
really very big : it has 10 cylinders, 49.5 cm long, in two drawers of the
supporting table, which measures 147 x 78 cm, the box itself measuring
137 x 64 cm, height 45 cm !
I'll try and give you more details later on.
Best regards,
Philippe Rouille (Paris, France)
