Andy LaTorre's Bach Sinfonia Experiment
By Jim Edwards
As a high school teacher of an American Studies class that integrates
the various arts into a core study of American Literature and American
History which uses music often in the classroom I feel that Mr.
LaToree's experiment was flawed from the word go. The original studies
of the use of classical "lots of notes music" by such composers as
Mozart was done in quite a different manner than a one shot let the
students listen or pick their noses basis. The music was played for
several hours of quiet time study and did make a difference in
stimulating little grey cells out of hibernation. The three minute
"experiment" was doomed from the start and not much of a professional
format in the first place. If chicken's lay more eggs when they are
played music other than rap and heavy metal then surely students can
benefit from hearing music also. Note that this conclusion is without
any clinical evidence on my part being woefully ignorant of chicken
psychology. Give it another shot Andy, this time have quiet study as
your students attempt to ace your test!
