Bob Moore asks about a Wurlitzer APP roll with Christmas tunes. Doyle
Lane's parts and rolls catalog issued the year after he bought the
T.R.T./Wurlitzer band organ business (which would have been about 1976)
does list a 5-tune Chrsitmas roll (#377), with Santa Claus Is Coming To
Town, Silent Night, White Christmas, Joy To The World, and Jingle Bells.
Doyle also lists a 6-tune, length-of-a-ten-tune, roll (#30329), which
adds Oh, Little Town Of Bethlehem as the sixth tune.
Since Doyle listed these two rolls, it means that the masters for them
still survive today in the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum in North
Tonawanda, N.Y. But it does not necessarily mean that Doyle ever
actually cut any copies of the roll (only that he could do it). But
certainly those rolls WERE issued by Wurlitzer or T.R.T. at some time
previous to Doyle's acquisition of the stock.
The patchy APP information I have from Play-Rite and Ray Siou does not
show that Ray ever had Play-Rite recut any Christmas APP roll. But that
proves little. You'd have to check with them to be sure. And checking
with Play-Rite means phoning "Ma Malone" (Mrs. Jeanne Malone) in Turlock,
Calif. (209-632-5784).
A phone call to Ed Sprankle in Oakland, Calif., who is more knowledgeable
abut whereabouts of APP rolls than I am, might be Bob's best bet for
getting his hands on a Christmas APP roll.
