Hi readers, Just to introduce myself as a new reader of the Digest.
My name is John Winn. I live in Upminster, Essex, England, on the
extreme eastern outskirts of London. If you have a map of the London
Underground system you can see us at the end of the green District Line.
I am interested in fairground organs, as well as both classical and
theatre organs.
I own an Adolf Ernst Voigt upright player piano that was made in Germany
in the 1920s. It is working (just) but needs a few leaks attending to,
though I did recover the main feeders a few years ago.
My father purchased the piano about 50 years ago. At that time he was a
meter reader for the local electricity supply company, and he came upon
this house with a very large piano stuck in the hall. It turned out they
had just inherited it. He sat down and played it and very soon bought
it.
To get it into the house we had to strip it down to the bare essentials
to get it through the doorways, and having had some building work done
since then, there is no way we could get it out if we wanted to.
There are quite a number of rolls, and it was obviously somewhere where
there were some American servicemen during the war, as the more patriotic
American rolls are very severely worn!
My computer room is a Micro$oft free zone, having two Amiga computers
that are used for video work, DTP, Internet, music and playing games.
I am looking forward to learning more about the Digest.

[ "Viva la Amiga!" John, and welcome to MMD. We have several
[ subscribers here who are active with player piano and player
[ organ societies in England; I hope you will get acquainted
[ with them, too! Thanks for writing. -- Robbie
