I have a very excitable client here in upstate New York. Many piano and
roll buyers get excited during leaf-color-changing time.
We have 440 (+ or - 1 or 2) QRS 88-note rolls in nice condition, with one
excitable customer wanting to sell his pack for $2.40 apiece, all in good
shape. There are 100 Ampico from his "B" collection and probably 30
Angelus (nor Artrio). There is no list for any one these, but they are
all in very good shape.
The client, though a friend of mine, is thinking of going to the town
dump, so if any of our comrades here want to gamble, there are five nice
full boxes, neatly packed, of QRS (and of course some J. Lawrence Cook
etc. in there). Do we hear a bid of 2.35 or 2.40 apiece?
I will try to inventory the Ampico B rolls as soon as possible, and the
Angelus are, for the uninitiated, pinned ends. This is strange, 'cause
the last Angelus I saw was last week during a recuperating drive in the
country near an Auction. The Marshall and Wendell Angelus "passed" at
about 10 PM and was in the country dump at 11 PM. The other items on my
note yesterday are still on our property, i.e. the Conn Minuet 2 man 13
pedal organ (for a song); the 3 man Rodgers 320 (for another song).
That "thing" I said was from Worcester, Massachusetts, for you reed organ
enthusiasts is a "G. W. Howard made by Taylor and Farby, Worcester,
Massachusetts." That was going for a song too. (Seems like we have a
choir now). The Conn Minuet, for the Minuet enthusiasts, in the $250
range, is Serial #532373 Minuet, Model 543, Type 003. The Rodgers is
320, not a 321, no glock and needs an output board, and going at $800.
I'd like to get some attentive response by midnight, September 30, as
I probably mentioned, as they are in the way of our Edison Cylinder
collection and the Victor and Edison morning-glory horns. I have not the
slightest idea what one would do with the G W Howard melodeon, nor do I
have a record in my books of a Taylor and Farby builder, except that for
those young fellows out on the West Coast, it's always just a very short
jaunt to Brattleboro, VT, from Worcester, MA in those days, and Esteys
parts and beer can openers (to pull reeds) were plentiful.
Please help us clean up for Christmas. And again, yes, to the last three
letters I got, I am recuperating, feeling better every day, and the list
for the 3000 pieces of sheet music for the auction is off the press for
$6 on October 5 containing lots of info of stuff from 1865 to 1945. No
rags, blacks or blues to speak of, though one auction copy of Amos and
Andy doing "Three Little Words" keeps falling into the E. T. Paull
listings and well. Drop us a line at flix@cellone.com
