I heard an excellent musician on Prairie Home Companion the other day, I
think it was a replay of a prior November's radio show. The artists name
was Robin or Kevin Marshall [ph] and he played, get this, classical music
on the mandolin, and not easy pieces. He was stellar. If anyone knows
of the artist or if he has any recordings out, I'd love to find out more.
The other day I bought a Uke-Ban labeled "The Gibson". It is a tiny but
extremely fine quality instrument. Apparently it was a birthday gift to
a 7 yr. old child around 1923. It is my understanding these instruments
were manufactured for "string orchestras" during that era. Any informa-
tion on older Gibson instruments, and string orchestras would also be
appreciated.
Finally, I really enjoy the daily news and just wanted to thank you all
very much for your continued contributions and comments, and to thank the
editors for their dedication and fine work.
Sincerely,
Stephen B. Small
