Casting Escutcheons
By John McClelland

My significant other has been making custom jewelry now for about 15
years. We were discussing another of our favorite hobbies (mechanical
music stuff) and the conversation turned to those once nice-looking cast
plates that grace reproducing grand drawers and other pieces that were
made of pot metal but are now corroded and dull.

She suggested that it would be possible for her to use the old piece as a
model and cast a new one in sterling silver, with gold plating optional.
So I offer that to those that have a desire for the concours-condition
instrument.

Making the mold takes most of the time, so if there are several
collectors who have the same pieces they want to replace, then the
cost would be considerably less per piece. We have already cast the
Ampico B tempo lever, the drawer side plates and the small B levers.
They are gold plated, will never corrode and look outstanding.

If you are interested in having these pieces redone to really spiffy up
your instrument, contact me via e-mail.
