Whenever I am out on the town and invited to a home that serves up
beautiful musical sounds, captured on music roll and transmitted by a
reproducing piano, I usually adhere to the following "tipping schedule".
If the host plays all serious classical piano compositions, I up my tip
by 10%. I deduct 10% from the below schedule if I am subjected to loud
and musically dead "popular" rolls with lots of notes and little true
piano magic.
Tipping schedule, pianos:
grands under 6-foot: ten cents a tune,
grands over 6-foot: twenty cents a tune.
If the piano performing is a Steinway, the rates are twenty cents and
forty cents, respectively. The tip rate for modern "reproducing pianos"
is far less.
Does anyone else have a different tipping rate for grands?
