Hi Gang: As most of you may know I have constructed a piano that
will copy rolls into MIDI files. There has been many postings about
converting rolls into MIDI and vice versa. There has been much
discussion about preserving the music before the paper crumbles and
the music is lost forever.
So we have decided to put up another web page to include some of the
obsolete music from our collection, with downloadable files. The player
action to drive the reader is almost ready to be installed in the piano.
These files will certainly be playable and may lack perhaps the "finer
points" that has been discussed here. But one has to start somewhere.
According to my tests the reader still needs some fine regulation, so
bear with me while I iron out these problems.
Has anyone used Ken Calkins scanning tracker bar yet, and can inform us
how well it works? There is NO WAY I'm going to shell out the dough
until I see one work!! It looks like the plastic tracker bar in their
RAM pianos.
Surprisingly, I still have a lot of Sears Supertone rolls that are still
playable and hundreds of old US brand rolls along with Ideal, Pianostyle
and a few I have never heard of. We also have gobs of Italian rolls.
If anyone wants to donate files to the page, we will put them up, along
with credits. The only thing we ask is that the roll is indeed obsolete
and not available anymore.
We hope to have Tempola rolls ready very soon. We will keep you posted.
Best regards
Andy and Chris Taylor
