The recent discussion of Bowers' Encyclopedia of Automatic Instruments
has prompted me to make an enquiry about another mechanical music book --
'The Fairground Organ' by E. V. Cockayne, published by David & Charles in
Newton Abbott, England in the early 70's and now out of print. In my
view, this book is the best one I have read on mechanical music.
I had my local library's copy on almost permanent loan a few years ago,
but have not been able to obtain my own copy.
On asking the library whether I could buy their copy, I was told that the
book had been borrowed a lot recently and probably wasn't, therefore, due
for deletion from the stock. It was me that had borrowed it all those
times !
If anyone knows of a good condition copy of this book for sale, I'd be
interested in making an offer.
Thanks.
