Was "Premier" one of Ampico's in-house brand names? Comparable to Steck
and Stroud on the Duo-Art side of the fence? I hadn't heard of this
brand, nor have the piano's owners.
This past weekend I went to visit some friends for dinner, but they moved
the dinner party up the block to their friends' house. In the living
room was a baby grand, and someone mentioned it was a player. Not seeing
an opening above the keyboard a la Duo-Art, I grabbed underneath the
key slip and pulled out a drawer far enough to see it was an Ampico A.
The friends' friends seemed impressed that I knew what it was, and said
they were thinking of getting it restored someday, but right now "all the
rubber hoses [tubing] keep falling out." I assured them that was normal
and a rebuilding would take care of that.
So, in the not-too-far future there may be a rebuilding job for someone
on this list, but meanwhile, what does anyone know about the Premier
name?
BTW, the piano is in regular use for the kids' piano lessons, and the few
notes I plunked seemed in tune, though the tone was nothing more than
you'd expect.
