FS: "Ross Davis" Wurlitzer 165 Band Organ
By Jack M. Conway

Attention band organ fans. I got a call from Don Rand today. He is
offering his Wurlitzer 165 Band Organ for sale. It is serial number 4348
and is the last 165 shipped by the Wurlitzer Factory. It is the third
from the last instrument ever shipped from the factory.

By the time that Ross Davis ordered it in 1939 Wurlitzer had no more 165
facades available, so it was produced by with a 157 facade. Don has the
original invoice.

Of special interest to those in the Los Angeles area is that this is the
organ that played at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round from 1939 until Don
and Ed Openshaw sold the merry-go-round to Rosemary West and Warren
Deasy. This was the organ that played as Walt Disney and his daughters
rode the merry-go-round. Of course I rode while it played many times
also, as I live five minutes from Griffith Park.

This is one of only ten surviving 165's, which are all now in collections
or museums. If you have a serious interest in this organ, contact:

Don Rand, Clark Orchestra Roll Company
163 Main Street, Thomaston ME 04861 USA
   tel (207) 354-8033.

I believe that four are in museums and five are in the collections of owners
who have no intention of selling. If you have always wanted a Wurlitzer
165 this may be your last chance.

I recommend that you call Don. He answers letters about as well as I do.
Let the phone ring a long time. If he is at the perforator it takes a
while to get there.

Jack M. Conway, Los Angeles, California, USA
