Ray Bauer adds an interesting thought to the accuracy issue. He observes
that hole size affects the response time of the system. He has noted the
difference in the musical reproduction of original vs. recut rolls with
differing hole sizes. It would be interesting to compare those rolls for
punch timing to help isolate the variables.
I expect we should find a response difference between round and square
punches, as well.

[ I'd hate to use a re-cut roll for this experiment; there are too
[ many unknown factors which could affect the system response time.
[ A better test would use new rolls, especially prepared, in which only
[ one parameter (such as the hole size) is varied. Alternatively, and
[ equivalently, one could evaluate Ampico rolls *produced from the
[ Ampico masters* by perforators with different hole sizes, e.g., 1920s
[ issue, Givens and/or Klavier issues, and perhaps current issues from
[ Keystone. Since the rolls are all made from the same master roll the
[ only variable would be the punch-and-die set used. -- Robbie
