On the theme of cylinder musical boxes with organs, mine is made by
Bremond, has 8 operatic airs, and also has the organ section on the bass
(left) side of the comb. My understanding is that this version of an
organ box is earlier than the more traditional center section organ.
Mine has been dated by at least one world authority at about 1850. That
sounds too early to me. Mid or late sixties sounds OK, but I am not
aware of organ boxes being made in the 1850s.
The outstanding quality of this Bremond is the sound of the reeds, which
is truly voice celeste. This is the only organ box I have heard that
replicates violins. Very sweet.
Has anyone seen an organ box with the organ section at the right side?
We're off to Seattle for the 48th annual meeting of the MBSI. My
understanding is that Beatrice Robertson will be reporting from there in
the coming days. Also, Beatrice confirms that she spoke with Walt Bellm
on Saturday, August 9. According to Walt, "For a dead guy, I'm feeling
pretty good." Let's be careful about what we report. Some of us still
want to believe what we read.
