Thanks, Jody for your gentle reminder about subscribers contributing to
MMD financial support.
Dear fellow subscribers,
Jody and Robbie do a _LOT_ (triple, no quadruple underline) of behind
the scenes work to bring you the digest on a daily basis, but
unfortunately, much of their work is not obviously apparent when you read
the digest. There is much more work than just compiling the articles
received each day, putting them in order, and re-sending them out to the
subscribers. The articles must be properly archived so that you can
easily find that discussion about glue or tracker bars from a few months
back. New subscriptions must be added to the list. Subscriber questions
must be answered.
Add to that computer usage, on-line time and phone calls. Jody has spent
much of his time trying to find ways to improve MMD archiving and
mailing procedures, etc. and searching for a reliable server that can
handle the monumental amount of information stored there. Their
long-distance phone bills must come close to equaling the national debt
--not only calls to each other, but also to suppliers and distributors of
products and services used to bring you the digest, and the occasional
phone calls to MMD subscribers.
On top of that, they deal with more problems and frustrations than anyone
deserves in a lifetime. Most of us would have thrown our hands in the
air, said "to heck with it" and walked away by now. However, Jody and
Robbie have patiently endured for over two years.
Our contributions help them cover legitimate expenses involved in
bringing you the digest. The Mechanical Music Digest does not have any
corporate backers with deep pockets to fund their efforts, so they must
rely on us.
Forgive me if I have sounded too blunt. My point is: If you have any
questions or concerns whether Jody and Robbie have "earned" a contribution
from you, _they have_. Believe me, they have.
