Introduction
By Julian Dyer

Greetings! I'd like to introduce myself to those who don't know me, and
let those that do know I've joined the MMD. I'm Julian Dyer, based in
Wokingham, some 30 miles west of London, England.

I'm primarily a player piano enthusiast, interested in making music but
unable to get my fingers 'round a keyboard. I also can't resist old
machines, so it's a perfect combination. I've been interested since
accidentally getting my first player when I was 7, some 25 years ago. My
player collection consists of a German-built (Gotha) Steck Pianola
upright, a 65/88 note Themodist Pianola pushup, and a British Weber Duo-
Art Pedal-Electric 6' grand, plus some other junk.

Musically I like just about everything. Having started with '20s and '30s
dance music, and coming in contact with major-league Pianolists such as
Rex Lawson upon joining the Player Piano Group, has got me more and more
into playing the classics as well as I can from arranged rolls. Finding
out a few years back about the new recut Jazz material from Rob DeLand
and others was a welcome (but expensive) revelation.

I've been editor of the UK Player Piano Group's Bulletin for the last 5
years. Perhaps some of the topics discussed in MMD could be picked up
there for the benefit of non-wired enthusiasts? I would of course ask
individual permission.

I am interested in the material available on roll -- old catalogues and
research into roll history, and the production of rolls, recut or new. I
salute the efforts of those who produce new rolls, as they are keeping
our hobby alive!

 [ Editors note:
 [
[ It's a rare pleasure to 'Welcome Aboard" another journal editor,
[ Julian. Can we cry on your shoulder when Jody and I have "one of
 [ those bad days!" ;)
 [
[ Regarding re-publication of MMD articles: MMD retains "Compilation
[ Copyright", and in addition, permission to re-publish must be obtained
[ from the authors. But these matters are easily arranged -- write to
[ Jody <rollreq@foxtail.com> for particulars. It's a fine idea. Jody
[ can also help contact the authors.
