Roll Cataloging Software
By Paul Johnson

Bruce Miller asked about roll librarian software. I've been using
Microsoft Access for almost every aspect of my roll auction business
for the last few years and found it's been able to handle everything
I want and more. Like Bob Billings, I started out with Dbase 3+ about
12 years ago, and boy! have PC database products advanced since then.

The nice thing about Access is it should do almost anything you want
it to do down the road. Believe me, you'll start out thinking, "all
I really need to do is this". But as you advance, there may be more
ways you want to fool around with your data. Access should be able to
handle those needs. The only price you pay for this is the higher
initial learning curve. However, the Wizards can be quite helpful and
there is a vast array of books out there for the product. Plus, you
can easily tie into Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word should you need
them.

What's a shame is that we're all probably sitting at home, keying in
exactly the same information. It might be nice if we could coordinate
efforts some how.
