I once traveled to Stone Mountain to see the musical museum there. After
paying to get into the museum I was surprised to find out that I had to
put as much as .25 to $1 in each and every machine. I was still excited
to hear some of the larger organs play.
After putting the coins into a large dance organ some lady across the
aisle put a quarter in a badly out of tune home-made coin piano and the
sound of the two instruments was horrible and it lasted for several
minutes. It was painful to listen to.
There was no one to give the history or specs on any of the instruments
and most of them were not in tune. It got worse, there were as many as
three playing at once. I just left very disappointed. Even the smallest
private collection being shown by a proud owner would be better and not
cost an arm and a leg.
I had also been to the Miles museum and the one in Deansburo NY, but if
you want to see a good museum you just have to cross the Atlantic Ocean
and go the Musical Museum in London and the St. Albans organ museum.
It's a better value even after the airfare. And of course Utrecht is
the best.
