The stuff PPC sells has very limited applications; I used it once and
never again. The place I get mine is:
Leather Supply House

I have also been very happy with 3 grades of tan pouch leather they carry
Their skins are not treated with glycerin, but they are not uniform
consistency. Some are stiffer than others, but this can be remedied by
wading the skin up in a ball as tight as you can get it. On thicker
skins, this loosens the layers up and you can peel them apart to the
desired pliability.
Now on gluing, I use a slow setting cold hide glue (Franklin). This is
going to sound weird, but it works very well for me. I lightly soak the
area I'm going to glue with saliva. ( Put it in a little dish and use
fine brush, the skin may be toxic.). This temporarily digests the
protein fibers in the skin, allowing the glue to soak in and create a
nice sturdy glue joint.
I discovered this by accident when I trying, with very little luck, to
recover those disk type pouches in a Weber Unika and I sneezed while I
was fumbling with the recovering jig, and when I tried to wipe it off
noticed the glue was beginning to soak in and hold. I experimented around
with it and what was a major headache became a breeze.
