Robin Pratt sez: "Oh, No!"
Robin, Many thanks for your expression of concern. I do indeed share
your perception. However, as you know, I'm being forced into shrinkage
of my collection over next few years while still in reasonably good
health.
Within that constraint, I have no option but to consider all alternatives
that could affect or assist in disposal. One of those options is to
modify my Artrio-Angelus to accept Duo-Art rolls. I agree it is not a
good option. After nearly 30 years in this avocation, I fully agree the
most desirable action is preservation.
This issue is not something that I must resolve tomorrow. It can wait
right through to the bitter end. One never knows who will emerge out of
the woodwork seeking exactly that piano. And between now and then, my
collection of circa 100 Artrio-Angelus rolls will be passed through
Wayne's hands for digital conversion, and hopefully one day re-emerge as
recuts.
Even original A-A rolls will eventually time-expire and self-destruct,
like so many of my green box Ampico rolls -- which I'm giving to John
Malone as a gift to be used just once more as masters to replace those he
lost in the fire. Appreciate your thoughts.
Sorry I couldn't make it to Sandusky. It was well within striking
distance from here, but a set of unusual circumstances forced me to
cancel out. Hopefully Niagara Falls next year, which is roughly same
distance.
Regards,
Terry Smythe
