I followed with interest Bill Ryan's comments [about his new web site].
I am always on the lookout for old tunes that I can arrange for the
fairground organ. I am not into collecting the sheet music. I borrow and
buy the music so that I can Xerox the notes only so that I can arrange
the music.
But I have a suggestion for those who love the covers and set out to
frame them. In the frame, the sheet music does no one any good . The
melodies are locked up behind the glass and are kept from people like me
who would enjoy exploring them. (A local restaurant in Maggie Valley,
NC, has many framed covers, sheet music and all. But I have been denied
access for obvious reasons.)
There is a simple solution. In the course of my sheet music purchasing,
I have come across several wonderful covers that I wished to frame. But
I didn't -- I brought them to a quality color Xerox house and had them
duplicated. The cost was $1 each. They did a wonderful job in
reproducing the colors. And now, the music is not hidden. I can release
the original to those collectors who like to collect old sheet music.
