[ "My Pal Alcohol" ]
I've a lot of good reasons for drinking
One's just entered my head
If you don't have a charge when you're living
You've got no flamin' chance when you're dead.
I heard there's a drink called water
It might appeal to some blokes
But to me I think it's unhealthy
See what it does to the bottoms of boats.
This song is about to end I think
I must away for another drink
My pal alcohol I looooove yooooou soooooo.....
This is from Gordon Parsons' "My Pal Alcohol". He also wrote "The Pub
With No Beer" made famous around Australia by Slim Dusty.
[ "The Pub With No Beer" ]
It's lonesome away from your kindred and all
By the campfire at night while the wild dingoes call
But there's nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear'
As to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer.
There's a dog on the verandah, for his master he waits
For the boss is inside drinking wine with his mates
He hurries for cover, he cringes with fear
It's no place for a dog 'round the pub with no beer.
Years ago, while on a 9-months tent show with Slim Dusty, Gordon Parsons
ran into a friend at interval in Queensland, had a quick drink, and
didn't rejoin the show until 3 months later in Alice Springs when he was
sober. He researched the subject most of his life.
[ My Pal Alcohol -- reprise ]
I've been drinkin' since I was four
An I ain't had enough an I still want more
Fill em up again, place the glasses in a row,
I've been in the horrors since Saturday late
But good hard liquor is what I take
My pal alcohol, I love you so.
