Hi All, I've just completed adding more new features to my web domain
(www.playercare.com).
If anybody is interested in how I incorporated some of these features,
just write. I'll be glad to help and provide you with scripts (when
possible) and links to sites where I obtained the information.
Most of the changes were initiated by comments or suggestions from
visitors to the domain. Since I don't have thousands of dollars to pay
someone to figure all these things out, I had to learn a lot from trial
and error. Just like most of the 'free' information on the Internet, it's
NOT very user friendly and I experimented with a number of scripts to get
them to perform correctly.
I could have posted this letter to the Web Authors Discussion Group but I
know that many of you who have web sites are not in the group but are
interested in enhancing your pages. Needless to say, the technology is
growing faster than most human beings can keep up with (myself included).
Today I was reading the headlines of some computer magazines and the big
thing is 'super speed' at 1/2 Gig/sec. Ouch!! I can see the wires getting
hot. Most of our computers operate at around 100 Meg/sec (except Jody,
Robbie and a few others.)
Anyhow, I'm still working on the Java script for allowing visitors to
choose a midi file from a drop-down list. Then, watch out, I'll be
begging for files from everybody and placing links to their respective
sites. (An increasing number of sites offer this option and we have one
of the largest databases in the world to draw from... rolls and the
people who arrange them)
I've realized over the past year that we are a relatively small group
in the world. As such, we really do need to help each other if we ever
expect to see our size grow. There are literally millions, maybe over a
billion people who have no idea what mechanical music is all about. It's
our job -- no, our privilege -- to enlighten and educate the newcomers.
After all, they are our future.
So get a little more involved in your future by opening up a few new
doors. Add a few more lines to your web pages that will attract new
'surfers'. Words like "fun", "digital", "music", "entertaining" and
"special".
Having a Great Day,
John A. Tuttle
